"Seconds after this photo was taken
the three men atop the fence dropped into America.
They were quickly apprehended."
This corrido is about an illegal immigrant returning to
Mexico after living and working in the United States. Mojado Acaudalado
means
wealthy wetback or a wetback whose accumulated wealth. This corrido takes
us to the many cities where concentrations of legal and illegal immigrants
exist in the United States. The protagonist is bidding farewell to all
the cities and states where he has worked, including Texas, Illinois, New
York and California. He says he'll take his memories with him and although
he has made money in these places, he is not happy. He would rather return
to his home in Mexico to retire and spend his money. Many immigrants when
they first come to the United States plan to work for a few years and then
return to Mexico to spend their money. This corrido deals with a subject
that many immigrants experienced or will experience. During live performances,
this song always gets a loud reaction from the crowd as men only wish their
time would come when they too can return to the arms of their mother country,
Mexico.
