Grammar Quiz

〜ようとする(attempt), transitive/intransitive verbs, and 〜てみる("do something to see how it is")

1. 私はチビをバスケットにしましたが、

チビはでした。

I tried to put Chibi (my dog) in a basket, but Chibi wouldn't get in.

2. 昨日すしをが、とてもおいしかったです。

I tried eating sushi (to see how it is), and it was good.

3. 昨日すしをしましたが、

くさくてでした。

I tied to eat sushi, but I couldn't eat it because it was too smelly.

4. 私は毎日７時のバスにが、いつもダメです。

I try to ride the 7:00 bus every day, but it's always unsuccessful.

5. エレベーターのドアをしましたが、

Question 8, answer 1 でした。

I tried to open the elevator door, but it wouldn't open.

6. 本田さんとしましたが、

本田さんはうちにでした。

I tried to meet Honda-san, but he was not at home.

7. フィアンセからのプレゼントをたら、

ダイヤモンドのゆびわがありました。

When (if) I opened the gift from my fiance (to see what it was), there was a diamond engagement ring (he put it in the box intentionally) .

8. 私の車のドアをしましたが、

こわれていて、でした。

I tried closing my car's door, but it wouldn't shut (close).

9. このテーブルをしましたが、

ぜんぜんでした。

I tried moving this table, but it wouldn't move at all.
