BAT CITY REVIEW NEWS

OUR READING PERIOD HAS ENDED

Thank you to everyone who has submitted work to BCR this year. I hope you’ve found our submission manager useful, and I thank you for your patience as we fixed the bugs. Our reading period for issue six is now over. Our next reading period will begin on the first of June; all submissions we receive in the intervening months will be held for consideration during our next reading period.

We’re really excited about issue six, which will hit the streets in spring 2010. Keep your eyes peeled, or even better, subscribe so we can send it your way immediately!

SUBMISSION MANAGER UPDATE

We hope you’re finding the online submission manager convenient. So far we’ve had a few bugs with the “withdraw” function, which are now fixed (we hope). If you were unable to withdraw your own submissions, please try again or contact us with further questions. Thanks again for your patience!

ONLINE SUBMISSION MANAGER

Dear Bat Citizens,

As of June 1, we are delighted to announce that we will accept submissions exclusively through our online submission manager, which you may navigate to here. We will no longer accept unsolicited submissions via post or e-mail. If you submitted your work between November and June through e-mail or snail mail, it will still be considered, but all submissions sent on or after June 1 must utilize the submission manager. We’re excited to use a more environmentally responsible means to consider your work and thank you for your patience during this transition.

Best,

S.E. Smith

Managing Editor, Bat City Review

D.A. Powell makes us blush

In a recent blog entry for the Poetry Foundation’s website, D.A. Powell has the following to say about Bat City: Edited by graduate students from the UT Austin program, the magazine features beautiful artwork and high-quality fiction. But the reason I bought it, and the reason I recommend it, is the outstanding quality of the poetry.” Aw shucks. We hope our next issue will continue to please, and thanks to exciting new work from Dara Weir, Mathias Svalina, Caroline Bird, Brandon Shimoda, and many others, we think it will.
