Episode 15: The Holiday Special Continued
Holiday magic has allowed us to resume the remote broadcast we began in Episode 14. You may remember that, in the beginning of our Radio Arlecchino Holiday Special, Eric had been invited to join our commedia friends as they celebrated the season backstage before opening a new show. As they shared reminiscences of holidays past, we reviewed the grammar points we’ve encountered so far.
So now we can continue to enjoy the warm fuzzy feelings, as we continue to review our grammar. Let’s listen in before something else happens!

Allora la principessa cominciò a piangere, e pianse sempre più forte, e non si poteva proprio consolare. E mentre così piangeva, qualcuno le gridò: – Che hai, principessa? Tu piangi da far pietà ai sassi.
perche’ qui si usa pianse?? for moving the story forward?? but why then ” non si poteva “???

scusa il ritardo… provo a rispondere al tuo quesito:
“pianse (sempre piu’ forte)” e’ un evento, un’azione parallela a “comincio’ (a piangere)”
mentre “non si poteva..” e’ una descrizione: era impossibile consolarla.
Spesso il linguaggio delle favole e’ lontano da quello quotidiano. Inoltre, qualche volta,
non e’ semplice stabilire se si debba usare l’imperfetto o il passato remoto (o prossimo).

I’ve studied Italian pratically all my life and have spent months and months in the country leading bicycle tours for our company, La Corsa Tours. Most of the time, unfortunately, I’m typically hosting Englis speakers while in Italy so I don’t have the opportunity to practice and really perfect my Italian. Your program is incredible! Please keep it up and produce more episodes. It makes my day to listen to you.

My clicker finger has grown arthritic, clicking on my Radio Arlecchino shortcut, to see if a new episode has been published. What a long wait for #16!
Fifty years ago (yes, 50) in Naples I had my Italian grammar and spent so much time memorizing page after page of conjugations, but I never had the slightest idea of what to do with them. Well, Radio Arlecchino has been such a blessing. It is brilliantly charming in explaining usage. It never ceases to be entertaining. The scripts, the acting, the music, the illustrations — you are all genii, as far as I’m concerned. Aren’t there awards for creating such masterful work in academia? If there has ever been a better university language program, I’d like to hear about it. I feel so privileged to have access to this treasure. Thank you, thank you.
By the way, Antonella, I always liked “fui fosti, fu”

Complimenti!! Studiavo la lingua Italiana quasi 20 anni fa e adesso studio di nuovo. Sono la mamma dei gemelli e voglio insegnare la lingua ai miei figli!
) Sono impaziente di numero 16!! Mi piacerebbe sapere quanti altri giorni (o mesi) devono passare? Grazie mille! Alla prossima…..
Mi piacciono molto i podcast e mi aiutano molto…ma quanto devo aspettare??
