HACER in time expressions

In English time expressions are asked by saying, "How long has it been?" Spanish speakers say, literally "How long does it make?" There answer follows one of two patterns:

Hace (TIME) que (ACTION)
  or
  (ACTION) hace (TIME)

Examples:

1A. Hace tres días que tengo problemas con Ana.
1B. Tengo problemas con Ana hace tres días.
"I have had problems with Ana for three days."

2A. Hace dos años que vivo en Austin, Tejas.
2B. Vivo en Austin, Tejas hace dos años.
"I have lived in Austin for two years."

3A. Hace cuatro semanas que Cristina vive en Tejas.
3B. Cristina vive en Tejas hace cuatro semanas.
"Cristina has lived in Texas for four weeks."

To say how long that something has not been happening, Spanish speakers simply put the word "no" in front of the verb. For example, "Hace tres días que no tengo problemas con Ana" (I have not had problems with Ana for three days), "Hace dos años que no vivo en Austin, Tejas" (I have not lived in Austin for two years), "Hace cuatro semanas que Cristina no vive en Tejas" (Cristina has not lived in Austin for four weeks).
