I am a retired emeritus in political science at a campus of Indiana
University but I had a "post doc" at Harvard in the early 80s. While
I was there the sociology department turned down someone who went to Princeton and won a Pulitzer. Now "political correctness" helps
determine who is hired and unless you are VERY,VERY good who gets
tenure. Its all very quirky and "accomplishment" has to be in the
RIGHT journals with the RIGHT referees unless you're in solid with
the people on the local committee(s)and then nothing else
matters."Accomplishment" has become like "merit" in school
systems;its largely a matter of definition. Remember "if a tree fell
down----!
