Age Numbers

Show Terms

Notice that the palm orientation for ONE-YEAR-OLD through NINE-YEARS-OLD is outward from the signer; palm always out. This is the opposite of counting numbers for which the palm in the number signs ONE through FIVE faces the signer. Additionally, each sign starts at the chin to indicate that it is an age sign. For the higher numbers beginning at 10, AGE is signed before the number sign.
Note also that in these age numbers the movement of the sign OLD is quite reduced (e.g. shortened) vis-ˆ-vis the sign OLD when it stands alone.
