Pseudonym of Mani-Leib Brahinsky. He came from an extremely poor family and emigrated from Russia to America in 1905. For most of his life he worked in a shoe factory. He is considered the model "Di yunge" poet, never wandering off in more political or emotiional, expressionist directions as did his friends, H. Leivick and M.L. Halperin. Mani Leib was a lyrical poet who painted a scene full of mood and expectation. One such poem was turned into a song, "Baym taykh" [At the river] He was also well known for his children's stories which were read and printed worldwide and illustrated by the most well-known artists in the Yiddish world.
