John Adams, depicted in this portrait, served in the First and Second Continental Congress, and was instrumental in drafting and getting passed the Declaration of Independence. He did not attend the Constitutional Convention of 1787 as he was abroad serving as America's minister to Great Britain, but was elected Vice President under George Washington.
