This feature is designed to show the number of US military personnel residing in foreign territories with the largest American presence (in 2003). The number of military personnel is divided into Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. Europe has the highest number of US military personnel (with more than 100,000 troops), followed by the East Asia and Pacific region (about 100,000 troops), then by the North Africa/Near East/South Asia region (about 200,000 troops, most of the latter engaged in the Iraq war). The Army has the highest level of personnel abroad, followed by the Air Force.
