Jaime Quintanilla
Analisis de Crédito del Grupo Financiero, ABACO
Monterrey, México

OK, my name is Jaime Quintanilla, I work for ABACO Financial Group and I am in charge of and responsible for everything related to credit analyses of the whole group. It is very difficult to describe a typical day of work. It's a day where a lot happens and one day is very different from the rest. What I can do is describe the activities that generally take place in my area, right? I mainly coordinate the activities of others. I direct them. They are the risk personal or those of the financial group, that is , those that analyze the risk of credit transactions for the financial group. This also with what we call the sub credit directors of the bank, that is "Confía" in Monterrey and the credit directors at other branches, mainly in Guadalajara and Mexico City. Besides that I also coordinate and supervise all that corresponds to credit in our leasing department of the group that is called ABA-ARENDA and in the financial factoring company that is called ABA-FACTOR. In addition, and this happens almost every day, I receive the majority of the credit requests that one sees from other subsidiaries in other parts of the country and it is these credit requests that are presented to the higher committees, the committees that have greater authority to authorize credit. These committees are those, as we call them, of the Financial Group and the highest level committee, the Advising Committee. I receive the majority of these authorizations, excuse me, credit requests, and as I said I review them, sometimes very briefly because at times several cases are placed together and then I turn them over to the area of corporate credit, those that refer to credit in ABA-ARENDA and ABA-FACTOR, the leasing and factoring companies.

Additionally, and this also happens almost daily, I assist other executives, that is, I help the promotion executives. Generally they are those that are here at ABACO in the brokerage firm. They are the ones the we consider the promoters of the corporate bank or the company bank. And I help them in some are of promotion, especially as related to credit, to problems associated with credit, requests, as to what information is required to undertake an analysis, how much time the analysis will take. And there are even times when I'm involved with the negotiation of some of the conditions of credit such as amounts, guarantees, terms, etc. I also follow up on some of the more important cases of credit portfolios that have reached maturity. Not all of them, obviously, but the majority, excuse me, the most important ones.

Additionally I also help supervise and coordinate the evaluation of securities credit but those are the ones that are acquired by investment companies of the brokerage firm, right? that is those that acquire those funds. We call them Investment Companies, right? This is basically what happens day after day. We get a lot of calls, a lot of calls from every region of the country.

I believe that the most difficult part is trying to respond to all of the calls, all of the questions, both from the people in promotion as well as everybody in credit. This is very difficult, right? because some times you've got five calls or more on the line. Additionally and obviously it is very difficult to coordinate everything so that the committees run smoothly and that everybody be willing to work together as committee, that is to have the quorum necessary for the committee. What I like most is that there is no time to be bored. That is the greatest thing and I believe the most appealing about the work. It is very interesting, even if it is very concentrated and focused on credit. And the truth is that you see many things, not just credit. You see everything from the financial analysis to the undertaking of the projects. You see projects, investment projects, restructuring projects, client portfolios that have liquidity problems or that are highly leveraged And at times you see other projects that are not related, but you also get to participate in them.

As to experience that we have had with people from the United States, with Americans, currently not very much, but before yes, but it was very related to the brokerage firm of the group. It was really in the issuance of stock of the Financial Group in the United States in the New York Stock Exchange. This has been very difficult, and 2 and a half years ago we tried to do this and at that time we dealt with a lot, with people from New York and other brokerage firms and other lawyers too. I don't currently work in this, the work with Confía, the leasing and factoring take up all of my time and I don't have enough time. So now is it is more sporadic, except when there is something that relates to a project that I am participating in together with an American company.
