source: Nihonshi daijiten, 7:636.

This large pot (24 cm tall) dates from the Incipient Jōmon era (12,000 BCE to 7000 BCE) and was used for cooking. It was fired at a relatived low temperature (500oC) and has thin walls (4 mm). The raised lines at the mouth and the fingernail-shaped pattern are a style that began in Tōhoku and Hōnshū and spread to other regions.
