Wild boar dogū

This small figure of a wild boar (3.5 in. tall) is from Aomori prefecture from the Latest Jōmon period. Although most dogū are human, animal dogū, particularly wild boar, began to appear in Eastern Japan in the Late Jōmon period. Jōmon people hunted primarily deer and wild boar, but there are, strangely, no dogū of deer.
