The Kamakura daibutsu, or Great Buddha of Kamakura was completed in 1252. It was originally enclosed in a great hall, but the building was destroyed in a typhoon and never replaced. The state stands over 35 feet tall, roughly two-thirds the height of the famous Dainichi at Tōdaiji.
