Hello! I study history and keep a blog devoted to the history of the 19th century. I started my LiveJournal blog almost five years ago. Since then I have got several thousands readers or, as the say in LJ, "friends." I don't really like the word "friend." In English it actually means "a friend," but I have very few close friends in LJ. Mostly these are acquaintances or just people interested in my research. Blog is an on-line diary, but it is boring to write about my everyday stuff. It is much more interesting to post entries about history, as well as share useful information. There are LJ-communities, or groups for people with similar interests, where you can discuss the most current topics and learn lots of new things. In my opinion, LJ can become an excellent educational resource. The trick is to know what to look for. I would recommend this community about Soviet artifacts to all students of Russian.

Здравствуйте! Я изучаю историю и веду блог, посвященный истории 19го века. Блог в Живом Журнале я открыл почти пять лет назад. За это время у меня появилось несколько тысяч читателей или, как говорят в ЖЖ, «френдов». Само слово «френд» мне не нравится. По-английски friend означает «друг», а среди читателей в ЖЖ близких друзей у меня совсем мало. По большей части, это знакомые или просто люди, которым интересны мои исследования. Блог это по сути сетевой дневник, но мне скучно писать о том, что происходит со мной каждый день. Гораздо интереснее писать заметки об истории, а также делиться полезной информацией. В ЖЖ есть сообщества по интересам (communities), где можно обсудить злободневные темы и узнать много нового. Как мне кажется, Живой Журнал может стать отличным образовательным ресурсом. Главное, знать, что искать. А студентам, изучающим русский язык, я порекомендую вот сообщество о предметах советской жизни

LiveJournal is a virtual network for blogging, as well as any given blog in this network. There are other blogging networks in Russian Internet, including Liveinternet.ru and Diary.ru. Nonetheless, LiveJournal or LJ is the most popular among them all. In 1999, an American programmer Brad Fitzpatrick founded LiveJournal, and in December 2007, Russian company SUP purchased it.

LiveJournal offers a standard set of functions. Users can post entries, follow entires of other users, and comment on them. Moreover, LJ hosts group blogs, or LJ-communities. If necessary, users may restrict access to their entries or forbid somebody from leaving comments ("ban somebody.") You may use LiveJournal for free or pay a fee. Paid accounts do not contain ads and offer additional services to their users.

According to LiveJournal Statistics, in early November 2010 the number of Russian speaking users reached approximately 1,900,000. Many Russian celebrities, including politicians, writers, and musicians, have LJ blogs. The President of Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev also has a blog. By means of LJ you can interact with people from allover the world, discuss topics of interest and even improver your professional skills.

Живой Журнал это виртуальная сеть для размещения блогов, а также любой отдельный блог на в этой сети. В русском Интернете есть много других сетей для размещения блогов, включая Liveinternet.ru или Diary.ru. Однако Живой Журнал, или просто ЖЖ, является наиболее популярным среди всех них. В 1999 году американский программист Брэд Фицпатрик основал Живой Журнал, а в декабре 2007 года Живой Журнал приобрела русская компания «СУП».

Живой Журнал предлагает стандартный набор функций. Пользователи могут публиковать записи, а также отслеживать записи других пользователей и оставлять к ним комментарии. Кроме того, в ЖЖ можно вести коллективные блоги, или ЖЖ-сообщества. При необходимости, пользователи могут ограничить доступ к своим записям или запретить кому-то оставлять комментарии («забанить»). Пользоваться Живым Журналом можно как бесплатно, так и за деньги. Платные аккаунты отличаются от бесплатных отсутствием рекламы и предоставляют пользователям дополнительные услуги.

Согласно статистике Живого Журнала, в начале ноября 2010 года число зарегистрированных русскоязычных пользователей достигло приблизительно 1 900 000 человек. Свои ЖЖ есть у многих российских знаменитостей, включая политиков, писателей и музыкантов. Президент Российской Федерации Дмитрий Медведев тоже ведет Живой Журнал. С помощью ЖЖ можно общаться с людьми со всего мира, высказываться на интересующие вас темы и даже совершенствоваться в профессиональном плане.
