UT Student Success Tool Supports Students Online and Campus-wide

The UT Student Success Tool, available in the UT Canvas App Store, is an easy-to-use reporting and messaging tool that draws on real-time data to help prevent students from falling behind in a course. The tool allows instructors and TAs to reach out directly to students via Canvas Inbox or email in order to respond to student inactivity in the course, address missing assignment submissions, and remind the class about upcoming due dates.

The tool now features an updated user interface, more robust message logging and reporting, and other usability improvements. Now clearly indicated are:

  • The number of times a student has been messaged via the tool
  • The date and time of the most recent message sent to the student
  • The type of message that was sent
  • The contact mode (i.e. whether message was sent to a student via Canvas or email)

Additionally, the lists of inactive students, those with past due assignments, and previously messaged students are now sortable by a variety of fields including name, EID, the date and time of the student’s last activity in the course, the number of times a student has been messaged via the tool, and the date and time of the most recent message sent to the student. For more information about the UT Student Success tool and instructions on how to install it in your course, please see the help guides or contact studentsuccessapp@utlists.utexas.edu.
